Voice Anatomy for Vocal Directors

Teaching voice lessons is hard, especially when we have little to no guidance in academia these days. Even with a degree in Music Education, I knew NOTHING about the anatomy of the singing voice and how it functioned until attending grad school.

Let me be clear: I don’t think you need to go to grad school to learn more about how to teach voice effectively

That’s why I created this program - to give teachers an opportunity to learn and grow at home, or in a live training session. I created a program I really needed during my first few years of teaching public school and voice lessons - and the results have been amazing!

Voice Anatomy for the Vocal Director is available as a live in person training for the educators at your music school - or virtually, online.

Kate has taught Voice Anatomy for Vocal Directors to teachers around the country, and in person at festivals, and music education events in the US

Discounted packages for community music schools, online music schools, and school districts are available.

What This Program Covers 📍

🫁

Respiratory Basics

We’ll start with the foundation of all vocal sound: breath. You’ll learn how the respiratory system powers the voice, what efficient breathing looks (and feels) like, and how to spot and support healthy breath habits in your singers.

🎤

Mixing and Voice Care

Finally, we’ll put it all together. This session is about blending registers (chest, head, mix), avoiding vocal fatigue, and caring for the voice in a professional context. You’ll come away with techniques to help your singers build longevity and versatility.

🗣️

The Larynx

Next, we’ll explore the larynx. You’ll discover how sound is actually created, the role of the vocal folds, and how pitch, volume, and vocal registers are manipulated. We’ll also talk about common issues and how to address them with practical tools.

🧑‍🧒

Teaching Young and Older Voices

As voice teachers, there are challenges we face with younger voices, as well as aging voices, together we discuss how the anatomy is different, and how to navigate the challenges that come with younger and older voices, voice changes, and vocal development.

🎶

The Vocal Tract

Once sound is made, it has to be shaped. This class focuses on the resonators and articulators that shape vocal tone, color, and clarity. You’ll learn about vocal placement, vowels, and how the vocal tract affects different styles of singing.

😮🎶

A Voice Lesson for YOU!

It’s hard to apply all new strategies things without doing them yourself. This program includes a monthly voice lesson with Kate so you can chat, sing and discuss even more ways to help yourself, and your singers.

Vocal Receipts for Voice Anatomy for the Vocal Director

“This program is amazing. It’s an all inclusive course on not only how to refine your craft, how to have a better experience in the classroom as a music teacher. Nobody ever thinks to do this for us… which is why I love it so much”

Lee Condakes,

Master in Music Education

Massachusetts Music Educator

“This course is fantastic!! As a high school choir director, I find that a lot of the technical stuff we learned can wash over our students heads. However, Kate was able to break down the vocal anatomy and pedagogy in a way that is digestible and easy to reteach to students! Also, the voice lessons were invaluable — she helped me find my mix and gave me great tips to share with my students as musical theater auditions approach. Thank you Kate!

Dina Spiropoulos,

Master in Choral Conducting

Maryland Music Educator

“I learned more in this course than I did in an entire semester in undergrad! If you’re considering doing this course, I say: GO FOR IT!”
